Johannesburg, South Africa –The road towards the much-anticipated Royalty Soapie Awards begins today with a call to entry for all local talent in storytelling. The 6th edition of the awards ceremony will take place on the 4th of March 2023, and will be a significant celebration of South Africa’s TV drama royalty, showcasing and emphasising the importance of stories in our lives.

DAILY TV DRAMA: A daily TV drama, typically performed as a serial on daytime television, is characterised by characters and situations, sentimentality, and melodrama. It is a series of experiences characterised by dramatic displays of emotion.

SOAP OPERA: A television daily TV drama program dealing typically with daily events in the lives of the same group of characters where storylines intertwine and are told during indefinite, continuing runs. A soap opera has no definite end date, it evolves over time and new characters can be introduced and old characters are written out, sometimes returning years later to continue their storyline and branch into new ones.

TELENOVELA: A television drama program characterised by a continuing melodramatic storyline and a permanent cast. Telenovelas tells one self-contained story, typically within the span of 10 and 11 months, and they are written with a definite start and end part.

Entries for submissions from creative, technical, and acting will be opened as of the 21st of November 2022, up until the 15th of December 2022. There are 6 category groups in total, broken down as follows:


MOST WATCHED SHOW: This category is not open for entry; the winner will be determined by audited reports conducted and published by an independent research council.
